No. Every course is built for first-time applicants as well as experienced shooters. Instruction starts from fundamentals regardless of background.
California requires a 16-hour course for new applicants and an 8-hour course for renewals. Both include classroom instruction and live-fire qualification. See how the two course formats differ.
All sessions are by appointment, Monday through Sunday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, to fit around work and family schedules.
No firearm is required to start — everything needed for class is provided. Bring a valid government-issued ID.
Upon completing the required modules, you'll receive full training documentation to include with your county CCW permit application.

The 16-hour initial course is for first-time applicants and covers the full curriculum. The 8-hour renewal course assumes competence and focuses on legal updates and re-qualification.
Yes — private instruction is available for both firearm training and self-defense training, at your own pace, in addition to our standard group courses.

California requires CCW applicants to be at least 21 years old. You can take the training course itself as preparation, but confirm current age and eligibility rules with your issuing county.
California CCW licenses are generally valid for two years. Start your renewal before expiration — a lapsed license typically requires retaking the full 16-hour initial course.
Classes run by appointment only, so a class date and range time are reserved for you. Book online or call ahead rather than walking in.
